04 | 29 | 09 > THIS IS A LONG ONE... STOP SNICKERING
First off this week, I want to let you all know that my show, Straight Out of Berwyn at Fly Bird in Oak Park has been doing really well. The opening was really fun. A lot of people braved the rainy weather to come check out the work, and to those stupendous individuals who bought work. I really appreciate it and hope my work brings you years of enjoyment.
I'd also like to thank Julia and Kate at Fly Bird for letting me do the show there and for all the help in getting the show up and running. You ladies are out-of-sight!
If you're reading this, and couldn't make it out to the opening, you still have time to come on out and check out the work in person. The show runs up until May 24, so make your plans and drop on by when you get the chance.
Speaking of Sunday, May 24, that is also the date of Constructor 2 at Fitzgerald's in lovely Berwyn, and you guessed it, we'll be there showing of our finest Nerfect wares. From our popular stickers and buttons to favorite t-shirts old and new will be well stocked and ready to serve you, so come on out. We'll also have a selection of original artwork and prints for all you art collectors out there.
Please mark May 24 on your calendar and make Constructor 2 part of your Memorial Day Weekend plans. It was so much fun last year, and I'm really looking forward to the event again this year.
One of the folks who came out to the opening of my show was Nora from Sheriff Peanut, which I recently did artwork for an infant onesie for. I wanted to make sure to mention it again because more and more of my friends seem to be with wee ones these days, and maybe I'm biased, but I really think that all babies should have a Magic Duckie onesie.
Finally, before I get to the weekly site updates, I'd like to mention something kind of interesting. One of the fine individuals who came out to my opening, Sarah, let me know about an interesting tattoo she saw in the pages of the May 2009 issue of International Tattoo Art Magazine. Check it out!
Of course that is a switchblade-wielding Diabolical Hot Dog tattooed on someone's limb out there in the world. The tattooist is Donnie Kizzee from Indianapolis, but I have no idea who is walking around with the tattoo. It is very cool to think that someone likes my art so much that they get it permanently inked onto themselves. After selling your artwork and getting it ripped off, seeing it inked onto someone's flesh is a good sign that you are really onto something.
Well, enough of all of that, let's get on down to the ol' updates. First up, is my 4x6x365 '09 project. With everything that has been going on, it has been kind of hard to find the time to sit down and draw a picture every day, but once again, I have pulled it off. I'll let you decide how well though. Here is the first of the latest batch for your viewing pleasure.
I have also updated the Picture of The Week and Link of The Week, so check these features out when you have a free moment.
I double-checked my list of things to mention this time around and I think I have it all detailed here, so I'll be signing off. See you next week.
04 | 22 | 09 > ARE YOU EXCITED? I SURE AM!
As I write this, the opening of my show, Straight Out of Berwyn at Fly Bird is just a few days away. Yes, Saturday, April 25! That day you have marked on your calendar, and that event you surely won't miss.
I just got done packing up all the pieces for the show to get them ready to move over to Fly Bird for hanging. As I probably have way too many pieces, it took way too much time. I have paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and a few odds and ends ready for you to check out. There is a nice range of stuff and there will be many pieces to fit any budget. You can see some of these pieces on my Flickr photostream.
To review, Straight Out of Berwyn will be at Fly Bird from Saturday, April 25 to Sunday, May 24, and there will be a opening party THIS Saturday from 7 to 10pm. Fly Bird is located at 719 Lake Street in Oak Park. There is a green line stop no more than two blocks away and there is a parking garage close by, so it couldn't be easier to come on out and see the work.
Speaking of work, I have some new additions to my 4x6x365 '09 series. You can see the newest drawings right here.
I've also updated the Picture of The Week and Link of The Week, so please do go check them out.
Well, that is all for now. I hope to see a lot of you Saturday night, and if not then, I'd like to invite you to visit Fly Bird to see my work until it comes down on May 24. See you later. Take care.
04 | 15 | 09 > WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT?
I'm a little over a week away from when I have to hang my show at Fly Bird and even though I have more than enough pieces for the show, the pieces that I really want to show are on my studio wall yet to be finished. It has been a very productive few months for me and just now do I really think that I'm starting to find myself in the work. There are some really interesting pieces left to finish and I'd love to show them, but the time just isn't there.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me, and please do make it out for the show. I'm sure you have April 25 through May 24 marked off on your calendar for Straight Out of Berwyn, and have been thinking about what you'll be wearing to the opening Saturday, April 25 from 7 to 10pm.
Anyway, enough about that, what is new on the ol' website this week?
First off, we have the ever-growing 4x6x365 '09 project. I've managed to scrawl a few hot numbers over the last few days. Why not take a look at them? You can start right here.
Next, I've updated not only the Picture of The Wee, but the Link of The Week as well. Now if I could just get in some quality sleep time in my bed and not on the train, I'd be all set.
Well, speaking of sleep, that sounds like a good idea. I'll think I'll go hit the hay. See you next week.
04 | 08 | 09 > I'M ALL FULL OF UPDATES
Hello folks and welcome once again to Nerfect.com. As you may or may not know, it is updated every Wednesday by yours truly, Mr. Walters.
I'm sorry; I was going to write a bit more there, but then "Human Beat Box" by the Disco 3 came on and I kind of lost track of what I was doing. Alas, poor Buff, we hardly knew ye.
Anyway, here is what is new and notable this week:
If another week has passed, I have a new set of drawings from my 4x6x365 '09 collection for you all to review. Every single day of the year, I sit down, reflect on the day and create a special drawing. These drawing measure a mere four by six inches, but are big in effort. You can check out this week's drawings starting with the first in the new batch.
I've also posted a special, photographic treat for you all. Please enjoy the Picture of The Week at your leisure.
There is also a new Link of The Week for you to check out, but try to save that on your way out of Nerfect country if you can. You should make sure you have your fill of all things Nerfect before you head off to some other, highly-recommended website.
Finally, before I head off, I'd like to give you all yet another friendly reminder to come out and see my upcoming show at Fly Bird in Oak Park. The show opens April 25 and runs until May 24. I'm working hard, every spare second I get to make this a great show, so please come on out!
Also, my work is still up at Mostly Gallery's Poop Yer Nerfect Pants and will continue to be up until the end of the month. Drop Mostly Gallery a line to make an appointment to see this unique exhibit.
Well, that is it for now. I've got to get back to painting robots and stuff. See you next week.
04 | 01 | 09 > ALL GOOD THINGS
For quite a long time now, I have been trying my best to balance my day job, my artistic career, my social life, take care of my health, and when I've been able to squeeze it in, take the time to update this website every week. Unfortunately as demands from these various aspects of my life have grown and added stress to my life, the other aspects suffer. If I do something about this the results will be disastrous for me.
That is why I have decided to stop updating this website every week. It takes a lot of time, that frankly I don't have anymore to carefully update this site every week. Right now, I'm not sure if I'm going to move to a monthly update or no regular updates at all. I do this with a heavy heart. Updating this site, and adding new content to it has been such a big part of my weekly routine. It is a big hard to type these words, but I have to do it. It is the one thing that I am able to sacrifice at this time to bring a bit more sanity to my life.
With all that said, I'd like to present quite possibly the last of the weekly updates. Here we go.
First, I've posted the latest batch of drawings in my 4x6x365 '09 series. You can see the first drawing of this new batch right here. Again, I'm not sure when I'll be making my next post, but I will try my best to keep up with the daily drawings.
Next, I've posted a new Picture of The Week and Link of The Week. Please check them out when you have the chance.
For those of you who couldn't make it out to the opening of "Poop Yer Nerfect Pants, I will say that you missed a real nice event, but you can still check out the excellent selection of work. Just get in touch with Ryan at Mostly Gallery to make an appointment to go check it out.
Also, please make sure to come out and see my solo show, Straight Out of Berwyn at Fly Bird in Oak Park, April 25 through May 24. There is going to be a opening party from 7 to 10pm on April 25. I hope to see you all there.
Well, I'm sorry that I had to deliver such sad news this week. I try my best to keep things upbeat and light around here. Of course the truth is that all this bad news is pretty much humbug. We'll be back next Wednesday and every Wednesday after that for the foreseeable future. Happy April fools day.
