12 | 30 | 09 > END OF THE AUGHTS
Well, here we are. As I type this, we are a couple days away from not only the beginning of a new year, but a new decade. I don't know about you all, but this last year has had its fair share of rough patches and losing my day job back in November really hasn't endeared 2009 in any fashion into my heart.
Sure, there were some highlights. I got to show my work a bit more, and that work has started to pay me back a little. I also returned to San Diego for Comic Con, met a lot of great people and had a stupendous time. Unfortunately, the rough bits tend to cover up the good bits at times.
The thing I keep wondering about, which I thought I might have some insight onto by now, is what am I going to do with myself in this new year. I've learned a lot in the last decade about, what I'm good at and what I hate in a day job. I guess this is only natural at a temporal milepost like moving into a new decade.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I hope 2010 is a lot more fun and interesting than 2009. It just has to be.
Speaking of things moving on, let's get onto those weekly updates you foxy folks are here for. Yes, I called you "foxy." Don't get uptight about it. It's a fact, if you're reading this, you're super-foxy.
As another year comes to an end, so does my current batch of daily drawings. There are going to be a couple more 4x6x365 '09 drawings next week. I just can't seem to get the timing right, so that a year ends when I update my website, and sure I could change the day I update, but it seems easier that if the calendar year would just sync up with the weekly Nerfect update cycle. Anyway, check out the latest drawings beginning with this gem.
I've also updated the Picture of The Week and Link of The Week for all my interpals out there. "Interpal" is a merging of "internet" and "pal", and is a term I hope catches on in the new decade. I've been trying to get "Nerfect" into the everyday vocabulary for a decade, and so far no luck, but "interpal" might stand a better chance.
Well, that is about it for now. See you next week, interpals. Keep it Nerfect!
12 | 23 | 09 > THANKS FOR STOPPING BY
To start off this week, I would like to thank you for taking the time to come to my website. I know there are a lot of websites, assorted things of interest, and pictures of naked people out on the internet for you to enjoy, and I really appreciate you taking time away from all of that to come visit with me and check out my work for a while.
I'd also like to extend a very special, super-shiny thank you to all the regulars this website has picked up over the years. I feel it's important to keep adding to the content of this thing and to share the artwork I've been working on, and every Wednesday, you know you can find all sorts of updates. Those of you who stop by every week and share what I'm doing with others, well, you folks are the best. I hope I can keep you coming back.
With all that said, let's move onto this week's updates.
As the year is coming to a close, so is another collection of daily drawings. My 4x6x365 '09 series will be wrapping up next week, and I feel it has been a good run. You can see the latest drawings I've added to the group, starting with the first of this new batch.
I've been drawing a picture a day on four by six inch pieces of paper for about five years, and even though there have been some rough patches here and there, I can't see stopping this exercise anytime soon. This is especially true with the two-thousand drawing mark coming up next year. Just knowing it is there, makes me want to keep moving.
I've also posted new entries into the Picture of The Week and Link of The Week. I've enjoyed sharing these features with you all, too, but I'm seriously putting some thought into a few more regular projects to share next year to add to the Nerfectness.
Until I figure out what these will be, I invite you all to keep up with my work and life via my Flickr Photostream. I know you were expecting for me to plug my things in Facebook and Twitter, but I flipped it there at the end.
Well, that is all I seem to write now. I have to hit the hay. Thanks again for stopping by, and I hope to have you here you next week. Aloha.
12 | 16 | 09 > MR. WALTERS' HELPFUL TIPS FOR TEENS
Hello young people. It's your main amigo, Mr. Walters rappin' at you, and I thought I start out this week with some helpful tips that should get you through these strange teenage years with a minimum of crying. Why should you take the advice of some old dude who spends a lot of time in his basement eating bite-size pretzels and watching The Streets of San Francisco, whatever that is? Because young adults, I'm just like you, but with better taste in music and chronic joint pain.
Tip number one, nothing covers up the odd pimple on your face better than a week's worth or longer of facial hair. It's 200% true, so if you get a pimple, just grow your beard out.
Now, before you ask, I know that sometimes you don't have enough time before the winter dance to grow a lush layer of stubble, but worry not. You should simply put on your fake beard. What? You don't own a fake beard? Cor blimey! Fake beards are next year's wearing scarves all the time, no matter what the weather is like! Go get one right now, player!
Tip number two, nothing good on television or the ol' wireless? Why not check out the latest additions to my 4x6x365 '09 project? They're so fresh this week that you might look down and notice that you are no longer wearing socks, or pants! Follow the hypertext link at the end of this sentence to review the latest seven drawings. Did you click that link? If you missed it, here is another chance.
Tip number three, what are some things you shouldn't wear? Fashion trends move so quickly these days that if I give you any advice here, it will totally be out of date by the end of this sentence. Take off the wet suit and furry underpants, that it so last sentence.
What has helped me over the years is this simple, easy to remember acronym: D.N.W.A.L.W.W.C.W.W.O.S.T.T.N.G., or as your parents might say, "Do Not Wear Anything Like What Wesley Crusher Would Wear On Star Trek: The Next Generation." For example, a metallic silver, padded snowsuit with a braided lavender headband, or a woman's sweater that might of come from Phylicia Rashad's closet circa 1985 are to be immediately discarded as outfit options. I found it helpful to watch the entire run of Star Trek: The Next Generation and to snap a Polaroid everytime Wesley Crusher was in frame, and then to have these pictures covering my closet door for easy reference.
Tip number four, just to be on the safe side, you should probably check out the Picture of The Week and Link of The Week while you have the time. Stop popping and locking and get to it.
Tip number five, if you are trying to figure out if you should be in the moody vampire camp or the hunky werewolf camp, I have some advice for you. Watch Don Knotts in The Love God and move on with your life.
Tip number six, know when to say, "goodbye." Now seems to be an appropriate time.
12 | 09 | 09 > LET'S MAKE SOME UPDATES
In an early draft of this text, I went on for some great length about how winter had arrived and how I really don't dig it. Fortunately for you, I realized that the weather and shorter days have little or nothing to really do with Nerfect.com.
Before we get into the features of this website that are regularly updated each and every Wednesday, I'd like to mention that I've tidied up the Button Shop section. If you haven't checked out the buttons in a while, you might want to give the page a look. I've added a few new buttons to the selection.
This cleaning up of the Button Shop is part of a larger goal to update and clean up key sections of this site. These are things that I have been sadly negligent in keeping up to date, but now that I have a bit more free time, I'm endeavoring to make Nerfect.com a well-oiled machine.
Moving on, it should come to no great surprise that I've been able to keep up with my daily drawing project, 4x6x365 '09. A new selection of fine drawings have been added, and you can have a look at them starting here.
The Picture of The Week and Link of The Week have also been updated, and I invite you to check them out when you have a chance.
That is all for the updated parts of this site. Before I head off I'd like to mention my large drawings I've been doing lately, and that I've put up into my Etsy shop. This fun series keeps growing and gives and excellent opportunity to own some original artwork by yours truly.
Well, I must be signing off for now. Please return next week for more updates. Adios.
12 | 02 | 09 > I HAVE NO REAL CONCEPT OF TIME ANYMORE
I have discovered that I really need a routine, a schedule of fixed events in my week help me keep a solid grasp on the passage of time. Since being laid off from my job, my schedule is a bit more freeform than I was used to. I've still got things I have to do, but there aren't as many tight, solid deadlines anymore.
The curious result is that on some level I really have no idea what time, and in some cases, what day it is. This is complicated by the numerous trips I've taken through time lately. I'm not sure why I'm sharing this really. These opening paragraphs are often filled with such observations. I advise that you skip over this stuff and get to the updates.
As the year comes to an end, so does another series of daily drawings. We are in the final stretch for 4x6x365 '09 and I have posted the latest pictures for your enjoyment. You can see all the newest pieces beginning with this one right here.
I have also updated the Picture of The Week and Link of The Week. Both are enjoyable features and work a quick look.
Finally, before I sign off, I'd like to point out a new series of large drawings I've done lately and have decided to sell on my Etsy site. I know everyone and their parent company is out to make you spend your cabbage this time of year, so I'm not going to give you the hard sell. I just ask that you check them out when you have a chance.
Well, I've got a few more things before I go to bed or eat lunch or whatever it turns out you're supposed to do now. See you next week.
