Horsing Around on The Avenue 2007 is an outdoor public art display featuring twenty fiberglass full-size carousel horses painted by different artists. The horses will be placed on Oak Park Avenue, Lake Street, South and North Boulevards in Oak Park, Illinois from June to September. In October, the horses will be auctioned off to benefit Oak Park 's Animal Care League.

As you may have guessed by now, I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the artists contributing to this event. When the call for artists went out, my good friend Julia recommended me to the business association that sponsored the event. Julia runs a cool shop called Fly-Bird in Oak Park, which you should check out.

Rather than just show pictures of the finished and installed horse, I thought I would share some of the pictures I took in order to document the process. As I write this, the horse I painted has not been installed, but I plan on appending this feature once that happens and I get some shots of my piece on the street.

The first thing I 'd like to share is my concept sketch for the horse. After looking at the unpainted horse online, I did the following drawing. It was sent to be reviewed by the business who sponsored the event.
