Next, it was time to sketch my characters onto the horse. Before I could do this, I had to figure out what was going on the other side of the horse. For the concept proposal, I had only done the drawing I showed earlier, so I needed to do another quick sketch in order to have a game plan before drawing all over the horse. Below is the drawing I did for the other side.

With an idea of what had to go on the horse, I sketched everything out in pencil. As I went along, I had to adjust my characters here and there because odd sculptural bits of the saddle made things a bit awkward. I also ended up adding a few things here and there as characters had to be moved to accommodate those odd bits of mane and saddle.

As things came together, I traced my pencil lines in marker as a better guide when it game to painting. Also the marker I used was slightly thinner than the paint pens I intended to do my final line work in, so it gave me a good idea how the final piece would look like.
